Hi there! Long time no see! Just wanted to give some updates on what Just Bakery has been up to the last couple weeks- we have been busy!
As you know, we moved the classroom instruction online at the beginning of April. JB 42 has adjusted pretty well to the online curriculum, and it has been a learning experience for how we will continue to do online classes for the next cohort. They have taken their Nutrition, ServSafe, and today, Controlling Foodservice Costs tests, so far with positive results! We are hoping to get them in the kitchen in June, assuming everything is clear.
We have come up with protective measures to keep our staff and students safe in the kitchen: besides our typical thorough cleaning and sanitizing we will be limiting the amount of people in the kitchen, carefully balancing staff and students so they are not overlapping in production times. We are also taking extra precautions with our on-site neighbors, Porchlight, to make sure that we are staying distanced.
We will be back for orders May 15th!!! We will start with curbside pick-up on Saturdays from 8:00-1:00. This will be no-contact carry out and will finally get our tasty treats back in your homes! We are starting with a smaller menu, including some cookie decorating kits for you and your loved ones- something fresh, tasty, fun, and hopefully new that you can enjoy together! For curbside we will have breads, rolls, cookies, brownie tins, and loaded carrot cake. We will also have take-and-bake dinner rolls (plain, cheesy, and pesto parmesan), cookie dough, and cinnamon rolls so you can have amazing fresh baked goods without all the work! Make sure to check out our online ordering May 15th and place those orders! We will also be available for delivery, but ask a minimum order of $30 so that we are utilizing our staff in the best way possible. We will need 24 hour notice for orders instead of 48, so when that craving strikes, we got your back!
We have two classes coming up! First, we are doing our trauma-informed cohort. This paid group is focused on participants who have experienced trauma and that trauma interferes with their ability to find or hold employment. The information session will be May 19th at 12:00 for this group. Our application is online and we will run through what Just Bakery is and answer any questions online.
We are also doing our summer youth cohort! This is for people 16-18 years old. We will be providing baking materials to learn at home. Justin will be instructing the baking portion online over zoom, Zack will be handling ServSafe and Baker's Math, and we have a great team of supports from MUM: Kaziah, one of our peer specialists who has a lot of experience with working with teens and families, and Ron, our Mentoring Connections leader will be utilizing his years of experience coordinating teens to hopefully make this youth cohort the most successful yet! This info session will be June 3- link to come!
As you can tell, there will be some tools needed to take part in either of these upcoming cohorts: a computer or cell phone and internet. If you are missing any of those, please still tune in for info session and fill out applications! There are a lot of resources right now that we may be able to utilize to help solve some of those issues if you get accepted!
We know things are tough out there right now, especially still dealing with the uncertainty. We hope you are all taking care of yourself, mentally, emotionally, and physically. We are very excited to be able to start baking for you again! Thank you for your continued support ❤
