This completes week four for JB 39 and you know what that means- kitchen starts next week!! The students are very excited to finally get out of the classroom and start doing kitchen work with Sonja! Here is Danielle to tell you a bit about the week:
"This was a very busy work week for us. We are flying through our ServSafe book guided by Zack who is always fun and informative.
Jackie is teaching us our nutrition portion of the class which is very interesting and a bit confusing at times, but she makes sure it is fun and interesting. We are doing well on our quizzes for the most part. In addition to Nutrition, we are also working through Baker's Science- this week was dairy and we made whipped cream and then whipped it into butter and ate it on JB's Multigrain bread.
Our awesome employment intern, Patrick, is teaching us about resumes. He is teaching us what employers are specifically looking for and how to re-word our skills and past employment history.
Kianna from Anesis taught us about boundaries. We learned about healthy and unhealthy boundaries and how they affect our relationships.
Jan came in with magnetic poetry for us to enjoy creating. We initially struggled a bit to be creative with our words, but we got there!
All in all, in my opinion, it was a really great week and are excited for next week to get our hands busy making some yummy baked goods!"
We've been busy making our fall recipes- Pumpkin Bars, Chocolate Pecan Pie, Sweet Potato and Pecan bread, Pumpkin Spritz- but of course we are already thinking about what products to make for winter. We would love to hear from our readers! What are your favorite winter flavors? Comment below and make sure to keep an eye out to see if we go with your suggestion!
If you haven't already, make sure you go over to Eventbrite to buy your tickets for our awesome Chopped-style fundraiser! We have been getting some amazing donations for the silent auction (cooking classes, instruments, computer, lots of gift cards to local businesses, tickets for American Player's Theater, and more!), a 50/50 raffle, and cuisine from Madison College. Did we mention JB past and current students are going up against Madison Council and Madison Police Officers?! It will be a night to remember!
We are looking for more donations! If you are interested, email firstname.lastname@example.org!
Thank you for you continued support!
