This week has been very busy for the new students as they find there footing, balance life, and manage a chapter a night in homework. They got to have a peek at the past student's nutrition presentations and man was it very beneficial for them we might make it a regular occurrence.
We did a lot of team building the last week, some of which included "Name Game"& "Team Building Puzzle" (as shown below). We did some stress management and Tai Chi was the big one we did everyone seemed to like that!
Time to meet the students! Today we're gonna hear about Michelle, Malachi, and Robin make sure to check out next weeks blog for the remaining students as well as follow us on our facebook and Instagram page @mumjustbakery
"My name is Michelle. Born and raised in the Madison, WI area; Mcfarland is my "hometown". I am 33 years young, and the middle child of five. I have four children, two girls, and two boys, and am blessed to have a very large immediate, extended and adopted family. I have been aMUM client on/off for almost a decade in different capacities. Baking has been a passion of mine for many years. I enjoy just about every aspect of baking, my specialty being cupcake cakes. I've made hundreds. I came to Just Bakery to expand my skill set, further my knowledge, and pursue my life-long dream/goal of owning my own bakery. My passion stems from creating a delicious cupcake cake for my young daughter/cousin B-day party, ten years ago. I have undergone many challenges in my life from past trauma to incarceration. Though I see life through the lens of what I've been through, done, or seen, I don't allow the difficulties and mistakes define who I am, or limit who I strive to be. I enjoy being a mom, volunteering with animal rescue organizations, and watching my beloved WI teams: Badgers, Brewers, Packers all the way!"
Michelle makes beautiful cupcake cakes!
"Born and raised in Madison, I am 37 years old, and finally starting on a new venture towards positivity and self-worth. Just Bakery was introduced to me at the moment I deeply needed something different to focus on and build a future goal around. I was straight "A", honor roll student in high school. Linguistics and writing have been a passion of mine since a very young age, but at some point, I lost everything within myself. Sometimes I wonder if I ever really had a grip on who I am inside. And, honestly, I never thought I would even be in existence this long. So I never planned a future. At this point, it's still difficult for me to find my "place" in reality. The only close relationships I've ever had were with the person I was dating at the time. And even then, by age 19, I was drinking every day, with my then-boyfriend, and by 24 I got my first DUI and totaled my car. I mention the drinking because I realize how I've never been in a "sober" relationship. This tells me/worries me that even in my closest relationships, I was hiding myself. Also, at 24, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. It's difficult for me still to come to terms with myself. Jumping to where I'm at now: I've stopped drinking at age 30, but went down a path I never thought I'd go... for 7 years, I was addicted to opiates. It got to the point where I wasn't even feeling the drug, but couldn't face the sickness of withdrawal. I'm now on a 4-month sentence for my 3rd DUI, but honestly, this is a blessing in disguise for me. I started going to church, was even baptized! While I know everyone is different, I decided to stop trying to control every aspect of my life, and I'm trying to let the universe create my path I'm meant to follow. I feel that Just Bakery was meant to cross my path and I'm grateful a program like such exists."
