Employment intern, Pat, here. This week has been all about accountability, selling your brand, and preparing for the Food For Thought culinary competition, on Saturday November 2nd.
On Monday, we dove into statements. Statements are supplementary documents for resumes and cover letters that explain gaps in work history; whether they are from convictions, family life, illness, or more. Statements allow you to take ownership of your prior actions. You can then discuss them on your terms and show what you have learned and how you have improved from your prior convictions or experiences.
On Tuesday, the students were in the kitchen making blueberry muffins and cookies. We had our info session to pick out the new batch of students for class 40!
On Wednesday, our students took on the ServSafe final test. After weeks of studying, hours of testing, and attentive discussion, 3 of our students passed and will be the proud holder of their ServSafe certificate.
Thursday, we focused on grief counseling and on Danish Kringle dough. Skills in the kitchen have been developing quickly, and student’s confidence has been building with it. They seem to love the kitchen experience.
Friday has been all about nutrition, research for presentations, interviews, and finally relaxation. The students are prepping for their nutrition tests, and their nutrition presentations are quickly approaching as well. Interviews are the final step in their employment skills. Being able to interview well will send a great message to future employers. This Monday, each student will be going through a few mock interviews, I’m excited to proctor them. Finally, Jan came in and brought in a relaxing activity for our students; bead and bracelet making.
